What are RSS feeds?

Think of RSS as email from a web site - but better.

RSS automatically delivers new content from a web site to you, instead of you having to go to a web site to see if there is anything new of interest.

RSS is as easy as your favorites or bookmarks and you have the same level of total control over them. Don’t like a feed? Delete it.

Like your bookmarks RSS feeds can only be activated by you. There is no danger or possibility for unwanted RSS feeds, for spam, for unsollicited feeds.

Bottom Line: RSS makes reviewing a large number of sites in a very short time possible.

Don’t like it? Get headlines by email (powered by Feedblitz, a trusted source) instead.

Easy to use

You can read the RSS feeds you subscribe to in web based services you’re familiar with: My Yahoo (free) or My MSN (free), for example.

You can read them on dedicated via dedicated services such as Bloglines (free - highly recommended) or Newsgator (free - tip: also available via Windows Media Center!)

Or maybe you prefer to read it not on the web but on your own computer? No problem, RSS can be received and read in popular email programs such as Outlook (free), Outlook Express (free), or Eudora (free).

Use another email program and want to receive your feeds there? Use Newsgator Email Edition (premium).

Or maybe try a dedicated feed reader such as FeedDemon. Want more, something else, something free? A simple Google search for RSS reader lists more than enough free and premium programs and services.
