Black Cat Wins
I love how we reason sometimes. A 14-person strong syndicate in the UK won over 255,000 US dollar after seeing a black cat…
“I am very superstitious and then one day as I was driving home from work when a black cat ran across my path.
That week we won £10 on the lottery, and the following week we scooped the big one.“
– Annette Seammen, one of the winners
Not that money changes anything anyway, right?
Robert and Tonya Harris won the $275 million dollar price in Friday’s Mega Million jackpot. It’s the largest single player win in the history of Georgia (USA), even though Robert and Tonya opted for the one-time payout of $167 million.
Robert quit his job immediately, saying; “It’s very easy to walk away.”
They’ll use the money to dream house, pay for their grandchildren’s college education and shower their family with presents; “They’ll get anything they want.”
They spent Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton, planning to buy a new truck on Monday.
I’m happy for these folks and wish them all the joy and happiness in the world but none the less had to smile when I then saw Tonya Harris quoted as;
“We’re not gonna change,” she said, wearing warmup pants and flip-flops. “I’m too country.”

Mind Your Step
Feeling the US nation is divided and hurting, Lance Rowe wants to make people think about Jesus Christ.
In 2001 he started a prayer march in central Louisiana. Since then he walks every day dressed like Jesus, carrying a cross.
Says Rowe:
“If people ride by and think to themselves, ‘Who does this guy think he is, Jesus?’ then I’ve gotten them to think of Him at least once during their day.
There will always be hate in the world no matter what. So I’ll just keep walking and praying for reform in our church and our land.”
Rough Times Made Better
And talking about religion, Fox calls Angel Food Ministries a God send during rough times.
The economy forecast is grim, and the cost of living is increasing across the country. Families are especially pinching pennies at the grocery store.
Imagine getting steak, ground beef, pork, chicken, turkey, soup, vegetables, pasta, milk, waffles and dessert for just $30.
Sounds hard to believe, but thanks to Angel Food Ministries’ economy box it’s possible. […]
The program is faith-based with government subsidy from the USDA, but you don’t have to be a church member to sign up.
Angel Food Ministries is not income-based. Anyone who feels they could need a break is welcome.
“My family was eating me out of house and home, and I don’t know what to do about that.
Looking back, it’s been all about the ‘angel’ part of Angel Food, because it came to us when we really, really needed it.”
– Julie Collins, mother of 5
Get Back!
“Get back to where you once belonged”, sang the Beatles (hey, can’t help a good lyric getting stuck in my head).
Anna Marie Wagner, 17 months, is safely back with her mother after her non-custodial father had dropped her off at a police station.
An 8 week old Yorkshire terrier puppy is back where it belongs after the friend recognized the woman who had taken the puppy.
Meanwhile in the UK Dagny Hassall, 13, has her 5 month old kitten back. The cat had been cat-napped and dumped 10 miles away.
“I would like to thank every one who acted on our flyers and to the retailers who put posters up, and to the general public for their calls. It shows that there are good, kind people out there.”
Heroes
20 Year old music student Daniel Bridgwater is considered a hero after he he dragged an injured, drowning man from a Birmingham canal. He and his friends were then able to keep the man in a recovery position until medical help arrived.
“There seems little doubt that their quick actions saved the life of this man.
It is refreshing to see that complete strangers have gone out of their way to help a man in a potentially life threatening situation and they should be commended for their actions.”
– Murray MacGregor, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman.
Heroes aren’t always that easy to track down. Literally.
In 2002 a black pastor rescues a young girl from the flames. In 2007 Grand Rapids Fire Investigator Pablo Martinez finds a plaque made of Lucite, honouring the hero.
He goes in search of the hero, finding the wrong man first. [Read the full story]
