Hero stops speeding driver

A HAVE-A-GO hero trucker stopped a drunken Jaguar driver in his tracks after he evaded cops in a high-speed chase.
Police had been hunting dangerous Daniel Mallett, 29, for two days over his reckless driving.
And they finally caught up with him when quick-thinking lorry driver Stewart Thomas rammed his car into railings so that police could seize him.
Mallett was more than three times over the legal drink drive limit.
He was seen driving his N-registered Jaguar recklessly in the city centre on April 25 this year, Plymouth Crown Court was told.
A taxi tailed him and alerted the police after Mallett slammed into vehicles.
When police tried to trap him, he escaped by driving the wrong way up a busy road, narrowly missing smashing into traffic.
He was next clocked speeding at 75 miles an hour in a 30 mph zone, said David Gittins, prosecuting.
And the next day, he was seen going over a roundabout the wrong way.
Plucky Mr Thomas saw the chase in his mirrors and jammed the Jaguar against the central reservation.
Police swooped and dragged Mallett, of Plymouth, Devon, out of the car.
He admitted dangerous driving on two occasions and driving with excess alcohol in his blood.
The judge slapped him with a ten-month sentence and four-year driving ban.
Recorder Nicolas Gerasimidis rewarded brave Mr Thomas with £200.
”He believed it was his public duty to help the police,” he said.
