Couple Reunited After Living Years Apart
Published: December 4, 2007
“Sonja–here she comes,” says an excited 54-year-old Robb Vannoy. He has waited more than two years to see his wife in Iowa. During that time, the couple led separate lives, his in Iowa, hers in Thailand.
He and his 52-year-old wife, Sonja, married in 2005 after meeting at Iowa State.
She was on a student visa doing research, but when the visa ran out, she had to go home to Thailand.
It was only three months after their wedding.
The newlyweds kept up their long distance marriage over the phone and in between Robb’s visits to Thailand.
Two weeks ago, Sonja’s new visa was approved. “I feel great to come back, to see my friends, my loved one, my husband. I feel so excited,” she says.
To be with her husband, Sonja had to leave a 14-year-old daughter back in Thailand. The couple is now working to bring their daughter to Iowa.
