Brother and sister stand out as heroes in Logan
Published: October 26, 2007
Trenton and Logan Williamson are two amazing young individuals and after listening to a 911 call made by the two recently it is undeniably clear that little people can do big things.
The brother and sister are both under the age of 10 and are to be commended for their efforts in helping their grandfather, who was kicked in the face by a horse on his farm.
According to the 911 call, Trenton was riding the horse when it bucked him off. Lanny Carver (Papaw) was trying to help when he was kicked causing his eye lid to be sliced open.
Listening to the call can send chills up your spine and can make a tear come to your eye. The sound of two small children who were scared their Papaw was in serious trouble is heart-wrenching.
“Please come help my Papaw,” said a sobbing Trenton on the line with the Emergency Center Communications (ECC) dispatcher. “He got kicked in the face by a horse and he is bleeding a lot.”
Dispatcher Marsha Farmer tried calming Trenton in between asking him important questions about his grandfather’s condition. Farmer comforted the boy telling him it was okay and he was doing a great job and not to worry because someone was on their way to help.
Farmer told Trenton to have his grandfather sit down and put a towel on his wound. Trenton asked if it needed to be wet. Farmer replied it didn’t matter and that the towel needed to be on the bleeding.
Trenton handed of the telephone to his sister, Logan who took directions from Farmer until The Medical Center EMS got on the line to ask further questions.
Logan and Trenton, although very shaken, were extremely helpful during the emergency according to the EMS in the 911 call recording. They did everything they were asked to do and gave all the information the dispatch and EMS asked for. They got their grandfather to sit down and stay calm and got a towel for him to put on his face.
“This goes to show you that even if you are young you can make a difference,” said Logan County Judge/Executive Logan Chick. “I am very proud of these children for what they did.”
Trenton and Logan along with their mother, Amanda Whitmore, their grandparents, Lanny and Betty Carver, attended Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting and were officially recognized as Logan County Heroes and Outstanding Citizens. The two received a t-shirt and a certificate of appreciation from ECC director Judy Toombs.
