Lifeboat rescues dog from river
Published: October 22, 2007
UK — Rye Harbour Lifeboat plucked a dog to safety after it got caught in a flood tide of the River Rother.
The collie dog jumped into the fast flowing river while chasing a seagull on Friday.
The distressed dog became more panicked as the flood tide began to flow faster.
The lifeboat came alongside, where the dog was stranded. Two of the crew got out of the lifeboat and caught the distressed animal.
After calming the dog, the crew were able to recover it into the lifeboat, taking it safely to shore where it was re-united with it’s relieved owners.
Lifeboat Operations Manager at Rye Harbour Richard Tollett said: “This type of rescue is not unusual, here at Rye Harbour, we get several shouts to dogs in the river each year.
“We train twice a week for any eventuality, you never know what you are going to have to launch to.”
