AURORA — A 4-year-old girl is doing fine this morning after firefighters found her hiding under stuffed animals and clothing in her burning Aurora home.

The fire that broke out in the basement of the home yesterday morning. The girl’s parents couldn’t find her, and her father was still searching for her when fire crews arrived.

Firefighters couldn’t find her either when they went through the home the first time, but located her during a second search in a closet near the front door.

She was sent to a hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

Aurora Fire Department spokesman Mike Ackman says this case illustrates the need for families to develop an emergency plan that includes an escape route and a central meeting place.
