Good Samaritan Rescues Man From American River
Published: September 4, 2007
Scaremento — There was a rescue on the American River Monday, but it wasn’t Sac Metro fire that saved the man’s life.
Allan Peterson saw the fall from the rope swing. That’s when he swung into action. Allan saw what looked like a lifeless body floating quickly downstream.
“I just reached down and we put everything into it because it’s someone’s dad, you know?” he says.
Allan pulled him out of the American River and started CPR.
“Just trying to do everything I can to help this guy stay alive and make sure his family gets to see him again,” says Peterson.
The victim’s family watched hopelessly in horror.
“My wife was with them and it sounds like they were pretty hysterical,” says Peterson.
Seconds ticked away.
“Every 30 seconds seemed like an hour,” says Peterson.
Then: the first breath.
“At this point it looks like they saved his life,” says Fire Captain Jeff Lynch.
