JACKSON, Miss. – A 17-year-old Murrah High School graduate is conducting microbiological research on a graduate student level and is trying to find new ways to treat certain illnesses such as pneumonia.

Two years ago Sherrina Robinson began the work which led to a first place win at the Mississippi Region 2 Science Fair held March 23rd.

It also earned her a spot at the international competition.

Her mentor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Base Pair program, Mary Marquart, says she believes Robinson will go far.

Robinson is headed to Pennsylvania State University, where she will double major in cellular and molecular biology and music.

She’s applying a $1,000 prize she won to her college expenses.
