Student Brothers Come To School’s Rescue After Thieves Strike
Published: August 10, 2007
Two young St. Louis boys came to the aid of their school in a big way.
It was bad news when St. John the Baptist Elementary School in south St. Louis was robbed last week; this week, there’s a happy ending.
For the past year, brothers Liam and Myles Stacey had been doing chores and saving money. Neither boy had any specific plans for spending the money until last weekend.
Authorities believe the robbers gained entry by climbing a pipe up to a window and removing part of an air conditioning unit.
They made off with a lot of money and more, including a laptop computer, video camera and nearly $1,000 earmarked for missions in other countries. The stolen money had been earmarked for poor children overseas.
Last week, Liam gave the principal his $400 savings to help make up for the missing money.
Then there were pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and a few dollar bills. That’s because Myles contributed nearly $40 after Liam encouraged him.
The missions that will benefit from the boys’ generosity are far away but school officials said they’ll make sure that the boys get credit for their good deed.
