Meet Kerala’s 10-year-old guardian angel

Published: August 2, 2007

India — Anu spends most of his days walking his dog and going for a dip in the neighbourhood pond — an idyllic habit for any school boy.

However, this 10-year-old’s habit has, on four different occasions, saved the lives of four children.

Says one of the children whom Anu rescued, Afsal, “I had come to bathe in the pond with my brother. We moved into deeper waters as we were playing and lost balance and started drowning. Anu saved us, for neither of us know how to swim.”

However, Anu brushes this off with a modest shrug of his shoulders and says, “I saw them drowning and i just knew i had to save them.”

Anu’s teachers are proud to have a student like him. They say he is a role model.
