4-Year-Old Rescues Uncle From Seizure

Published: August 1, 2007

A small boy in St. Louis, Missouri, is being called a hero.

Damarion Johnson, 4, knew exactly what to do when his uncle had a medical emergency last Tuesday.

“He just did a phenomenal thing last week,” said uncle John Johnson.

Johnson, 30, said he was babysitting his little nephew. Johnson suddenly began to have a seizure.

“I was scared,” Damarion said.

Johnson said he vaguely remembers what happened.

“I heard (Damarion) call my name. I heard him begin to cry and I kind of went out of consciousness.”

Damarion stood on a chair to unlock the front door of the apartment. He spotted a neighbor in the hallway and asked him to accompany him down the elevator to call police.

“Just for him to have the consciousness to put it all together … is beyond amazing,” Damarion’s uncle said.

Johnson said Demarion was never taught how to respond to emergencies. In fact, Damarion had never seen his uncle have a seizure.

“Sometimes I think we belittle children because we don’t think that they can handle themselves in certain situations,” Johnson said. “But I think there’s an instinctual thing.”
