Scaffold collapse heroes honored

Published: July 6, 2007

THREE rescue heroes have been honoured for saving a woman who was buried under scaffolding.

Sarah Jane McGeachy was pinned to the ground after gales toppled three storeys of scaffolding in Edinburgh’s Palmerston Place.

Yesterday, Josephine Kay, Peter Mountford-Smith and Murat Dilek were all given bravery awards from Lothian and Borders Police.

All three rushed to help when they heard the 31-year-old’s screams.

They clambered over the collapsed scaffolding and removed debris, relieving pressure on Sarah Jane’s back and allowing her to breathe.

Sarah Jane suffered a broken back and could have died had a lamppost not taken the brunt of the collapse during the incident in 2005.

She spent two months in hospital.
