Dog stuck for 5 days rescued
Published: June 8, 2007
It a tale about a dog that found himself in a desperate situation, he was stranded for days without anything to eat, but one Toledo woman wouldn’t give up until he was rescued.
The Gifford’s were outside enjoying their backyard six days ago. A noise coming from across the creek was the first sign something was in those woods.
“Our dog was looking over and whining. I didn’t see anything.”
Then movement caught Amanda Prince-Gifford’s eye.
“I saw a large black dog.”
But getting to the dog wasn’t easy.
Amanda says, “We were going to swim over but we didn’t know how deep it was or how the animal was going to respond.”
For days, the dog stayed among the brush pacing. The family made calls for help, but say they got nowhere, So they kept watch.
“He was crying all night. The thought of leaving the dog out there to die, I can’t deal with that.”
Today, help arrived. Investigators with the Toledo area Humane Society made their way to the other side of the creek. Fighting mosquitoes, muddy banks and thick brush, all in an effort to reach the hydrated, hungry dog, believed to be a stray.
The black dog has found freedom and maybe a new place to call home. It is still not known how the dog became stuck. He is older and has some hip problems, that may be why he couldn’t free himself. After a check up from the vet, the dog will be put up for adoption and the Gifford’s are considering adopting him.
