Soldier helps rescue driver of fiery car wreck

Published 23 May. 2007

A 20-year-old man is alive because four fellow soldiers from Fort Campbell saw his wrecked car smoking and pulled him to safety.
Craig Bowers was listed in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical.

Joshua Balduck is one of four members of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade who saw Bowers’ situation yesterday and ran to get him out. The car burst into flames moments after the rescue.

Bowers is in the same brigade. Officials say he was traveling toward the Army post near Clarksville when his vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and overturned, knocking down an iron gate.

Balduck says he felt it was his duty as a non-commissioned officer to get his fellow soldier out of that car.
