Miracle Moment: Micah’s Story

Published: May 21, 2007

It would be a scary situation for any parent to have your child come down with a mysterious illness. Even worse, you get to the hospital and the doctors say the child should be dead. It happened to a metro family, but somehow their little girl survived.

It was three years ago. Five-month-old Micah started getting very sick.

Jana, Micah’s mother, says, “She wasn’t holding anything down at all.”

They called the doctor concerned for Micah’s health. The doctors thought maybe it was just a bug that had been going around. Jana was eventually told to bring Micah in.

She says, “She (the nurse) said we’ll give her an IV she’ll perk up and we’ll send her home.”

But that didn’t happen. Several tests had to be ran, and little Micah’s veins collapsed.

“I was like whoa, what’s going on I was told one IV and we were going home and they were like no we’re going to have to admit this baby,” says Jana. “They said her blood levels were that of a child who had already passed, and yet she was awake and talking.”

Micah seemed OK with her new surroundings. But Jana admits it wasn’t easy for her to take it all in.

She says, “You never want to see your baby in the hospital. I mean, and especially when they tell you that she should have been dead.”

Jana credits God for Micah’s survival.

She says, “Me, my family, my pastors and my uncle had all been praying life over her and God heard us and he spared her.”

After many tests, doctors learned Micah had a severe kidney infection. She spent five days in a local hospital before being allowed to go home.

Even so, things still were not all well.

Jana says, “When we left the hospital she wasn’t even able to hold up her head.”

When before, Micah had been developing like any other five-month-old.

The doctors told Jana that Micah might always suffer due to the illness, but the doctors were wrong.

Jana says, “They had alluded to the fact that they didn’t think she was going to walk or crawl, but she’s normal. She’s happy. She’s healthy. God totally restored her. She is a miracle. God healed her.”

Today, Micah is a normal three-year-old.

Her big sister Emilee says she now prays a special prayer for her little sister.

Emilee says, “(I pray) for her not to get sick again and for when she gets sores for them to be gone the next day.”

Jana believes it is a miracle that Micah is still here today. She says God obviously had his hand on this little girl.

What she finds even more amazing is Micah appears to know who she owes her life to.

Jana says, “I just think it’s neat because she doesn’t remember what happened but yet I always feel like God has had his hand on her and she has a real heart to worship him, even at three.”

Micah is very healthy these days. Her mom says, by looking at her you would never know she had once been so very ill.
