Shasta reunited with owner
Published: May 10, 2007
On April 30 Shasta, a Siberian husky, disappeared from his home on Wilcox Road.
Shasta is an old fellow, at least 13 years of age. His master Corey Robertson put posters up in ‘the Grove’ (Forest Grove) and one on the school door.
Principal Karen Smith told the students about Shasta’s plight.
On May 3, Mrs. Smith received a call from Lily Waller who had found a husky at her ranch on Drewry Lake Road and wondered if any of the students might know the dog. In no time, Shasta was reunited with Robertson. Amazingly, he had been seen earlier in the week at the west end of the Canim Lake Reserve. Did he travel over the mountain by the little-used road from the Reserve to Waller’s ranch on Buffalo Lake? It would have been a very long, lonely trip.
As for any ill effects, Robertson said that Shasta is very tired but otherwise seems fine. Robertson left a reward for the children at the school.
“After all,” he said. “They said that the school would find him and they did.” Principal Smith noted that this is the third dog that has been found through the school. “A perfect example of networking in a small community,” she added.
