Hail to this little hero and his big presence of mind

Published: May 7, 2007

The award for bravery from Gov.-Gen. Michaelle Jean presented to nine-year-old Andrew Choi last week by Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan serves to show that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

Last September, Andrew was in a swimming pool in Whistler when he saw his three-year-old brother in trouble in the deep end.

Andrew immediately went to help his father get the younger Choi safely to shallow water.

A possible tragedy was averted by the alert, quick-thinking youngster.

With all the summer pool and beach fun just around the corner, it’s a reminder for all of us of the importance of remaining as observant and on our toes as young Andrew.
