State Patrol trooper rescues trucker
Published: May 3, 2007
A State Patrol trooper pulled a semi driver to safety after a tire on the semi exploded, the patrol said.
The agency’s Southeast Region office said inspector David Torres was flagged down by a motorist who told him that a semi traveling on Wisconsin 50 was on fire.
Torres pulled the semi over and the driver, who had been looking for a safe place to stop, got out of the truck’s cab with a fire extinguisher, the patrol said.
It said that, as the driver approached a tire that was smoking under the semi, the tire blew up and the force of the explosion sent the driver onto the pavement in a traffic lane.
Torres grabbed the driver and the two rolled under the semi to escape oncoming traffic Friday afternoon, the patrol said.
The driver received minor injuries but Torres was not hurt, the regional office said in a news release.
