Woman ‘Pays It 4ward’ To Animal Rescue Operations

Published: April 24, 2007

The pet food recall has dog and cat owners checking their shelves twice for tainted food.

This week’s Pay It Forward winner was more worried about the dogs and cats that don’t have loving homes. Priscilla Wright wanted to know what animal shelters were going to do after having to throw out a lot of their stock.

She asked CBS4 to help her “Pay it Forward” to the pets.

Wright is a pet owners herself. She has a pampered pooch named Phoebe.

“I just love her to death. We’re inseparable,” Wright told CBS4.

She is also part-owner of a horse named Mr. Shay. She’s loved horses since she was a young girl.

“When you’re cantering, there’s such a sense of freedom,” Wright said.

Wright has always dreamed of helping animals. But as a single working mom, she never had the extra money to make a difference.

The CBS4 Pay It Forward Project prompted her to write, “Please, perhaps some of the money should go to the animals. And animals are in great need in light of the recent pet food recall has depleted their supplies.”

With money in hand, Wright went to Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply and PetSmart in Littleton. She bought bags and bags of dog food, cat food, and even horse food. All the while her mission was top of mind.

“I’m really grateful to help the animals,” Wright said. “This is fun.”

When her car was filled to the roof, Wright headed out to meet the animals she’d dreamed of helping.

Wright had twelve stops to make. She’d identified a dozen shelters that needed help, and couldn’t figure out how to narrow down the list.

“I figure they each get $80 each,” she told CBS4.

At each stop she dropped off armloads of supplies and received wet kisses in return. She walked away wishing she could adopt all the cats, dogs, rabbits and horses that she met, but knowing that she had done a good thing for the animals.
