A knife-wielding woman who tried to rob a city store was stopped by the heroic actions of two members of the public who overpowered and disarmed her.
The woman went into the Spar shop in St Augustine’s Gate and threatened staff with the knife, demanding that they hand over cash.
But two people in the shop overpowered her and held her until police arrived.
The attempted robbery happened between 8.40pm and 8.55pm last night.
A 27-year-old Norwich woman was arrested at the scene at about 9pm and is currently being detained at the city’s Bethel Street Police Station.
A 43-year-old city man was arrested in connection with the crime in the Magdalen Street area of the city at about 12.20am this morning (April 4). He is also currently being detained at Bethel Street Police Station.
Det Sgt Nigel Richards said: “We have interviewed a number of eye witnesses already but we know that there were other people in the shop at the time of the robbery who have not yet spoken to us.
“I would encourage anyone who was there and who has any information about this robbery to contact me or one of my team at their earliest opportunity.”
