Dramatic cat rescue in Glendale

Published: April 13, 2007

It was a dramatic rescue in Glendale Friday as a cute little kitten was stuck in a drainage ditch.

Students from the nearby Challenge Charter School were the first to spot the animal. They covered the cat and firefighters did all they could to save its young life.

But trying to free the feline would prove difficult.

When the kitten was finally freed, it was given a little oxygen and a wipe of the eyes while the school kids looked on.

The next order of business was a name — which was Smokey.

It seems the mother left Smokey in that drainage ditch.
