4-year-old rescued from pond

A 4-year-old girl was trapped under water for about 10 minutes after being pinned underneath a utility vehicle known as a “Gator”.
The accident happened on Radcliffe Road around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Authorities said a mother was driving her triplets and her son along a path on private property when the vehicle went into the water.
The four-year-old girl and another sibling were strapped into car seats.
The mother pulled the other child to safety but couldn’t budge the vehicle in the waist-deep water.
“She wasn’t able to lift up the Gator and get enough room to get the child out of there,” said Hambden Fire Chief, Scott Hildenbrand. “So the child was under water for five to 10 minutes. Fortunately the water is cold, which is helpful.”
When firefighters rescued the girl, she had lost consciousness and was not breathing. However paramedics were able to get the girl’s heart beating again before they reached the hospital.
“Everybody worked together. They jumped down in the water. They rolled that Gator up,” said Hildenbrand. “They got the child out and off to the hospital in a manner of minutes.”
The two children were taken to Lake East Hospital and then the four-year-old was lifelighted to Metro.
