Snatched dogs in dramatic rescue
Published: April 5, 2007
A DOG owner left devastated after his four German shepherds were snatched from his Southampton home has been reunited with the final two missing dogs, thanks to the Daily Echo.
Owner Steve Warren travelled more than 60 miles to find that two dogs rescued in Windsor, Berkshire, were his beloved Pitch and Oscar.
Steve received a phone call reporting a sighting just 24 hours after the Daily Echo reported the dognapping of Major, Pitch, Bonnie and Oscar.
Hampshire Police have now arrested two men in connection with the dognapping.
Steve made the journey to Old Windsor Dogs’ Home after Joan Mould called him to say she had helped rescue two similar dogs earlier in the week.
He had already been reunited with one of his dogs, Major, who was found wandering near the Hampshire market town of Alresford.

Another, Bonnie, was found dead alongside a dual carriageway in Surrey.
The family of dogs was snatched from Steve’s locked premises, in Empress Road, where he lives and works, on March 18.
Steve, 54, lived alone with the four dogs, Major, seven, Pitch, four, and their puppies Bonnie and Oscar, both two, in his mobile home on the site of his pallet company, Southern Haulage.
Police have confirmed they are questioning two local men aged 29 and 34, in connection with the dognapping and a break-in at Steve’s premises, which happened overnight on March 14.
Joan, who spotted the story on the Daily Echo website, believed it was too much of a coincidence not to be his dogs.
She said: “On the Monday my sister and I spotted two German shepherds running loose along a very busy road, so we just stopped and tried to get them away from the road and get cars to slow down.
“With the help of another man, we managed to corner them and kept them until a warden came.
“They were such a sad sight.
“The male was quite distressed and had a black and white ball which he would not let go of, and the female was just so friendly.
“I’m just so happy I was able to help.
Steve said: “Thanks to the article in the Daily Echo Joan called me and told me about the dogs she helped rescue.
“When I saw the two of them I instantly knew it was Pitch and Oscar.
“I am just over the moon and cannot believe I have found them safe and sound.
“It’s fantastic and all thanks to the excellent article in the Daily Echo.”
