Reward for rescue hero
Published: April 4, 2007
BUSTA House Hotel held a special dinner last Friday to reward all those involved in the recent rescue of a Londoner from Ronas Hill.
The volunteers had included the hotel’s head chef Scott Parker and it was his involvement that fuelled owners Joe and Veronica Rocks to host the evening and also triggered the idea to launch a “Guest of Honour” scheme.
The entire rescue team of 27 volunteers, including Shetland’s coastguard sector manager John Webster, enjoyed a meal courtesy of the hotel and witnessed the launch of the new “Guest of Honour” scheme which will seek to reward deserving members of the public by nomination.
Every quarter Busta House Hotel will select one individual or group and treat them in recognition of their good work in the community. Manager Joe Rocks said: “Our head chef, Scott Parker, is also a part-time fireman and coastguard based at the Hillswick auxiliary station. On the morning after the heroic rescue of Bojan Marjanovic he’d come to work exhausted and told us of the events from the night before.
“We decided there and then to not only hold a dinner for all those involved in recognition of their admirable work and give our chef a well-deserved night off but also to introduce a scheme through which the public could nominate who they deem to be worthy of a special reward.
“We’ve set up a special email address guestofhonour@busta house.com and would encourage people to come forward with nominations over the next two months for our next guest of honour in June, be it an individual, small team or larger group.
“The award is intended to recognise people who have gone the extra mile for others in a wide range of areas including customer service, excellence in sport, art, music, public service, heroic deeds or any other endeavour.
“This is just our way of recognising people who go above and beyond the call of duty and, in this case, saved someone’s life.”
