Teen’s fashion show helps local charity
Published: March 29, 2007
Every year, seniors at Petal High School have to complete a senior project in order to graduate.
Moments after my 11th-grade English teacher mentioned that we should choose our subject, I knew immediately what I wanted to do: a fashion show.
And not just any fashion show. A catwalk that would feature girls of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. The message I wanted to send was that we are all beautiful.
Then, it came to me: Charge a door fee and donate those funds toward a local charity.
I searched for months, and I finally found Christian Services in downtown Hattiesburg. Christian Services is an outreach organization that treats every person who walks through its door as an equal. It was perfect, and everything was falling into place quite nicely.
March 25, the show date, finally arrived, and it could not have gone more beautifully. The girls were beautiful, and the reaction from the crowd was phenomenal, not only toward the show, but with donations.
I could not have asked for more.
