The former Clipstone soldier was awarded the coveted Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for bravery last year for his outstanding service in Iraq with the fist Battalion, The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment.
And on Monday the former Clipstone Colliery worker took special Army leave to come back to his home roots and congratulate the brave youngsters.
Speaking at the glittering ceremony yesterday, the former Garibaldi School pupil told guests there was a huge difference between the courage needed on a battlefield and the courage that the brave nominees show on a daily basis to overcome their difficulties.
“It is a privilege and an honour to be here today to see the awards being given out to these extremely brave youngsters and see what challenges they face every single day,” he said.
“The bravery that I show on a battlefield is nothing compared to amazing bravery that these courageous youngsters show on a daily basis and I would just like to congratulate them again for their achievements.”
