The occupants of a burning house in Clermont escaped with their lives Tuesday night after a Lake County deputy and neighbors rushed inside to rescue them, deputies said.

The blaze began at about 8:40 p.m. at 17228 Woodcrest Way in the Four Corners area, said Lake County sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Mysinger. Deputy Sheriff Stephanie Pfiester and four neighbors rushed in minutes later to help. They rescued the occupants, including Clarilia Mondesir, 57, who is paralyzed.

The neighbors who helped deputy Pfiester in the rescue include Berry White, Maureen White, Darren Brittain and Christine Brittain, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Pfiester was taken to South Lake Hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation. Mondesir was taken to Celebration Hospital.
