Workers Rescue Dogs From Fire

Published: March 20, 2007

Nearby workers rescued three pit bulls from a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

The dogs were either in cages or tied up on the porch at 4112 E. 11th Ave. Employees of a business at 4101 E. 12th Ave. ran to the burning house and rescued the dogs, Tampa fire officials said.

The fire started shortly before 3:45 p.m. Fire crews worked to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby house. They also worked around electrical power lines that had fallen, fire officials said.

The fire was under control in about 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.

A fire investigator from the Tampa Fire Marshals Office said the fire is under investigation, but its cause does not appear to be suspicious.

Ian Sanderson, 34, owns the home and was at work when the fire started. No one was home. Fire officials estimated the loss of the house, which was destroyed, at $120,000.
