Miracle boys survive car crash in bedroom

Published: March 16, 2007

The parents of two boys who narrowly missed being hit by a car when it ploughed into their bedroom say it is a miracle they are still alive.

The car failed to take a turn at an intersection in Otaki township about 3.15am on Friday, hitting the house.

The boys, aged nine and 10 years were asleep. The car - which was carrying three young men - stopped centimetres away from one of them.

The boys’ father, Tipene Hoskins, says he heard his sons screaming, and rushed to their room. The front wall of the house was demolished.

Otaki police believe alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash and expect to lay charges against the driver.

Sergeant Noel Bigwood says police are carrying out blood tests on the driver to find out if he was drunk.
