Cat Rescued After Getting Stuck In Engine Of Running Car

Published: March 8, 2007

You’ve heard of a cat stuck in a tree, but one Florida cat got stuck in the engine of a running car.

Ernesto Gonzalez was driving his children to school, Wednesday, when he discovered the extra passenger inside his minivan. Gonzalez only noticed the cat once he started the engine and the fan belt broke.

It took several hours for rescue crews to free the animal.

“It was a difficult time, even trying to figure out a way to get him out without injuring him any further, but also he was in a really tight spot,” said Ignatius Carroll, Miami Fire Rescue.

The cat suffered a broken leg. Miami-Dade Animal Services said it’s going to be hard to figure out if the cat belongs to someone or if it is just a stray, since he didn’t have a microchip or tag.
