A Fort Dodge man who says he lost his class ring 24 years ago was shocked beyond belief when a city worker returned the ring recently.

Leonard Darling Junior says he couldn’t believe the ring was found when city worker Jeff Wood brought it to him ten days ago.

Darling says he believes he lost the ring while fishing at a small dam near Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Darling graduated in 1979 from Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada. He had his initials _ L.A.D. _ engraved on the inside. The ring also has his birthstone, a peridot, a green stone.

Wood says he found the ring last spring in the dirt of a storm sewer intake. He took it home and his wife, Brenda Wood, decided to find its owner.

Brenda Wood says she searched for a Basic High School on the Internet and found only one, located in Nevada. She called the school and a worker there searched yearbooks for a few days and came up with Darling’s name and telephone number.

Darling is amazed that out of 400 students in his graduating class that he’s the only one with those initials.

He says the ring is a little tight but it still fits and he’s been wearing it.
