Couple Becomes Heroes After Highway Rescue

Published: March 6, 2007

An Onley couple became heroes on the highway after saving three missing girls from their estranged father.

Leon Parrott and his girlfriend were driving home from New Jersey on New Year’s Day when they spotted Amber Alerts on Interstate 95. A Burtonsville man — accused of killing his wife and kidnapping his children — was on the run.

When they got to Howard County, the couple noticed a car swerving all over the road.

“The car got my attention and I flashed a light and a little girl popped up,” Parrott said. “I couldn’t believe this guy had a little girl in the car.”

The suspect had all three of his children in the car.

Parrott checked the license plate - it matched the Amber Alert. He then pursued the car and called police. He stayed with the suspect until an arrest was made. The suspect has now been charged with murder.

Parrott was honored Wednesday in a special ceremony by Montgomery County Police.

“Honestly that’s the first time I have ever seen the Amber Alert and you can tell it worked.”
