Mail carrier hailed as hero
Published: February 28, 2007
Ray Boes received a hero’s welcome at work.
The Fremont mail carrier, described as humble by co-workers, received a certificate of appreciation during a recent ceremony at the Fremont post office. The ceremony was a recognition of Boes’ efforts that may have saved the life of customer Darell Flugg.
Three weeks ago, Boes found Flugg had not taken Monday’s mail out of his box. Suspicious, he returned to Flugg’s home after Tuesday’s shift.
With no answer, Boes decided to call Fremont police, who found Flugg unconscious on the kitchen floor and took him to a local hospital where he is recovering.
