Mother saves 7 kids from fire

Published: February 23, 2007

A mother saves her seven children by pushing them out a second story window.

The fire started at 32 Treyer Street just before 2:00 Tuesday morning.

The family dog woke the mother and she ran upstairs to get the children.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend went outside and then stood below the front windows and caught the children as they dropped down about eight feet.

There were six-year-old twins, a nine-year-old, an eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen-year-old and all of them are okay.

The boyfriend hurt his back while catching the children.

Firefighters say this really could have turned out differently if not for the quick-thinking adults.

We’re told the fire started in the back of the house and burned from the basement to the roof. We don’t know what ignited the flames. Investigators are still working on the cause.

The Red Cross is giving the family a place to stay and food to eat.
