A Miracle of Faith on Wheels

Published: February 16, 2007

A remarkable News 3 follow-up- the story of a Lowcountry rescue worker and her faith in a badly injured dog. Lara Moody was told the dog, who she later named Faith would never be able to lead a productive life and should be euthanized. But now, the story has a very happy ending.

After a horrible injury, no one believed the dog could ever walk again, let alone run. But Lara Moody calls the story one of hope and a miracle of Faith.

“I believe in miracles and I decided to give her a chance,” Lara Moody said of the stray dog she rescued.

That second chance to live has turned into a walking, and rolling, story of motivation.

“What she teaches me is to never give up and never quit,” Moody said. “She never looks at her obstacles. She never sees her disability as disability and doesn’t look as challenges as challenges. She just says, “I’m going to live a good life,” and nothing stops her from doing so,” Moody said.

Not now, at least. Back in December, after Lara found the stray dog terribly wounded, several veterinarians said she needed to be put down. But the dog-lover doesn’t usually go for that response, especially for a dog who she says has so much gusto and just needed the tools to put it to use.

“She learned out to lose the wheel-chair in 10 minutes flat and she is so fast on it that I feel like I’ve joined an up-scale gym,” Moody said. “It’s getting me in shape because I’m usually running behind her trying to catch up.”

The doggie wheelchair was sent from what Lara calls the “internet angel.” After putting Faith’s wish-list out online, someone answered the call. And just when you thought this story can’t get any better, Faith starts another adventure this weekend.

“She’s going into a wonderful home,” Moody said. “A trial home and hopefully it will become permanent. It’s a wonderful family that is full of love and just wanted a special needs dog and fell in love with her.”

The new found friends will have a hard time saying good-bye, especially after all they’ve been through together. But no matter where the dog goes, Lara always has faith in her heart.
