Racehorse rescued by firefighters

Published: February 12, 2007

A racehorse had to be cut free by firefighters after it became trapped in its horsebox.

Two crews from Newmarket were sent to Sefton Lodge stables after staff reported the three-year-old racing horse, Divertimenti, had tried to jump over the internal partition and became trapped.

It was left with its hind legs on one side of the partition and its front legs on the other.

The incident happened on stable grounds in Bury Road, Newmarket, at about 8am yesterday.

Firefighters used specialist equipment to cut the partition away to free Divertimenti, who is trained by Mark Wallace and owned by Sonia Rogers.

A spokeswoman for the stables said the horse was now fine adding: “He got his front legs over the partition and his belly was on the bar.”
