As night fell along the lakeshore, so did the snow. It was good for sledding, but not good for six kittens in a drainage pipe under a driveway.
Holly Bosch of the Harbor Humane Society explained, “We’ve been here since one.” The police and fire departments came and tried to force the kittens out of the pipe. But, nothing worked. The Harbor Humane Society did not give up, however. Bosch said, “We’ve got to get them out because theyr’e freezing.”
The last ditch effort included rescue materials like plastic pipe with cardboard duct taped to the end. When rescuers pushed the cardboard through the pipe, the kittens got scared, but got moving.
Eventually, all six kittens escaped the pipe, into waiting cages. They were taken to a warm van and then to the Humane Society for some tender loving care and medical attention.
Humane Society employee Nicole Jipping said, “This is rewarding, I think I’m going to go home and cry now.”
While Humane Society Board Member Jennifer Derr said, “We finally got them all out. It’s good to save an animal.”
