Trapped boy rescued from car
Published: February 8, 2007
Firefighters had to rescue a two-year-old youngster from inside a locked car in Oswestry after his mum lost her keys.
But rather than break into the vehicle in the car park outside Aldi in Beatrice Street, the quick-thinking firefighters found a way of getting into the family’s home, to get a spare set of keys.
The incident happened at lunchtime yesterday when the woman, on a shopping trip to the supermarket, realised she had lost her keys - and her son was inside her locked car.
She contacted the emergency services and a fire crew from Oswestry responded. Station officer Mike Wilkinson said: “We could have broken into the car but when she told us she had a spare set of keys at home we decided to try to get those.”When we returned the boy had fallen asleep so did not even realise he was being rescued.”
The mother, who did not want to be named, said she had been deeply upset by the incident.
