Recycle and help a guide dog train

Published: February 7, 2007

Burnley UK residents are being encouraged to take part in a new way of recycling which will help raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Pendle Council is appealing to staff and residents to donate any unwanted jewellery, watches, keys, foreign coins, old coins, bank notes and mobile phones to help turn them into funds for the national charity..

A treasure hunt box is located in the reception area of Nelson Town Hall and Fleet Street depot for people to leave their unwanted items.

Items will either be auctioned off or melted down, with foreign currency being sold back to the countries.

The charity has pledged that if £5,000 is raised, Pendle people will get to choose the name of a guide dog puppy.

Nelson resident Stephen Cooper said: “My guide dog Yeoman certainly helps me to keep fit. He guides me around the shops and town centre and to the gym at Seedhill.

“Thanks to Yeoman I can keep my independence and I’d like other blind people to have the chance of a guide dog through this fundraising campaign.”
