Police officers have a ball while raising $80,000 for children’s charity

Published: February 6, 2007

Big-hearted police officers have raised an impressive £41,000 (USD $80,000) for a leading children’s charity.

The money, raised at the PSNI gala ball, will help the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC) provide practical, emotional and financial support to young people diagnosed with cancer and their families.

Gillian Creevy, NICFC general manager, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the PSNI officers and civilian staff. This money will be used throughout Northern Ireland to help families who are living with the devastation that follows childhood cancer diagnosis.”

Deputy Chief Constable Paul Leighton said: “I hope it will make a really positive contribution to the lives of children and their families so tragically affected by cancer.

“The success of our fundraising would not have been possible without those who attended the ball, those who very kindly donated prizes and those who so generously contributed to the fundraising activities on the evening.
