There was danger on the job for a South Florida billboard worker Monday morning who had to be rescued from a five story billboard in Miami.
Fire rescue officials used a very tall ladder to reach the platform of the billboard, located at 1155 NW 11th Street, where the worker was injured.
According to fire rescue officials, there were three men removing a billboard when a gust of wind blew the sign into the men and one of them fell from the platform. The victim was wearing a safety harness and he did not fall to the ground but he did hit his leg getting back on the platform. The leg injury prevented him from climbing down the billboard by himself.
That’s when fire rescue officials used the ladder to reach the worker. They safely secured him in a stokes basket and lowered him to the ground but it took awhile because the windy conditions made the rescue even riskier than usual.
Once the worker was safely lowered to the ground, he was transported to a nearby hospital.
