Young philanthropist makes personal donation

Published: January 31, 2007

Last Tuesday one local child shared a personal gift by donating 11 inches of hair to Locks of Love.

Becca Todd , 6, is the daughter of Amy and Thom Todd. She is a current kindergarten student at Monnett Elementary.

“My mother had cancer and had to wear a wig,” said Todd’s mother Amy. ” I have explained things to Becca and she has some understanding of what cancer is and what donating her hair can do for someone who has cancer and has lost their hair due to the illness.”
According to Todd’s mom, earlier in the winter Todd had asked if she could have her hair cut. “Her hair was already sort of long and I figured that if she would let it grow out a little more she might be able to donate it. I asked Becca if she would be willing to donate her hair and she was all for it. So I waited for it to get a little longer then made her an appointment at ‘New Beginnings.’”

Todd said that she was glad that she had donated and said she would continue to donate in the future. “I know that it is a good deed and I want to help any way I can,” said Todd.

“I am so proud of her. We have raised her to be kind and to donate things she doesn’t use to organizations that help the less fortunate. Just recently she went through her play items and has filled up a few bags that she wants to donate to the crisis center and to local churches,” said Todd’s mom.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under 18 who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
