Fifth grader donates hair to Locks of Love

Brooke Robinson, 10, daughter of Casey and Laura Coale of New Haven and a fifth grader at Gallatin County School, donated 14 1/2 inches of her pretty red hair to Locks of Love Tuesday.
Liz Taylor did the honors at her salon in Carmi.
Her mother said Brooke has been allowing her hair to grow out for a couple of years and recently said she wanted to donate it to help someone without hair.
Brooke said she learned about Locks of Love about two years ago, while she was in third grade, when she read about the organization in the Weekly Reader. She was letting her hair grow out anyway, she said, and decided to someday donate it to be used as a wig for someone whose hair had fallen out due to an illness.
Her mom checked the organization out on-line and told Brooke to let her know when it was time to have the hair cut. The youngster decided just a couple of weeks ago that it was time.
The hair will be sent to the Locks of Love organization in Lake Worth, Fla.
Her friends told her that it was “cool” to donate her hair, Brooke said. “I’m very proud of her,” said her mother.
