Felpham hero praised for saving boy’s life

Published: January 26, 2007

Brave Darren Hall waded into the sea off a tourist resort without any thought for his safety to ensure the 10-year-old made it back to the shore.

He has been thanked by the father of the boy, Jack Flanagan, who wanted Mr Hall’s actions made public to enable everyone to know about his selfless act.

Mr Flanagan said: “I would like to see Darren Hall’s name in print so I can publically thank him. I am not confident Jack would have made it back to the beach on his own.

“For a parent, that is a horrible thing to have to think. I am very grateful to Darren and the German man who helped him.”

Modest Mr Hall said: “I did what I did because it was the right thing to do. It was not until I got back on the beach that I realised how frightening the situation was and how it could have gone the other way.”

He paid tribute to Jack for his response during the frightening ordeal. “He never whinged, whined or complained. That boy gave everything he had and a lot more. I was very proud of him.”
