Boy, 7, Rescued After Falling Through Ice On Putnam Lake

Published: January 24, 2007

A tragedy was averted Wednesday morning when a 7-year-old boy was rescued from Putnam Lake.

State Police Sgt. Joe Malorgio said the boy, who was not identified, was waiting at a bus stop at 8 a.m. outside his home on Lake Shore Drive when he darted across the partially frozen lake. Police said the ice gave way and the boy fell into the waist-deep water.

His older brother ran after him. His father, who heard the commotion outside, saw his son on the lake and also ran out, while his mother called 911.

The young boy was brought to the shore by the time state police arrived. He was warmed in the police car and taken to Danbury Hospital.

Police said the boy didn’t appear to be seriously hurt.
