Workmen rescue trapped woman
Published: January 19, 2007
A Dundee woman has praised two local workmen for their efforts in rescuing her disabled daughter.
June Rae, of Claypotts Road, told of how the two Good Samaritans went above and beyond the call of duty to free her daughter Elizabeth Innes (44) — who suffers from multiple sclerosis — after she became stuck in her bathroom.
Mrs Rae received a phone call from her grandson Michael at around 7.30am yesterday, who told her his mother Elizabeth was trapped in the bathroom of her Dalhousie Road home after her legs had gone into spasm.
She rushed round to try and help but was unable to budge the door, as it was locked and her daughter was on the floor behind it.
Not sure what to do next, Mrs Rae asked for assistance from two workmen from double-glazing firm Sidey — who were parked across the road as the RAC were working on their van that had broken down.
The duo, Gavin Goss and Kevin Hutchison, put their skills to use by taking the door off and carrying Elizabeth back to her bed.
They then re-attached the door and tidied up.
Mrs Rae said she really couldn’t thank the pair enough for their help.
“They didn’t have to help, but they really went out of their way.
“They both deserve a big thank you for what they did, not only that but they were so nice during the whole thing.”
Mrs Rae has since bought her heroes a present as a reward for their good deed.
Modest Gavin said he and his colleague were only too glad to have helped.
“Mrs Rae came over in a bit of a state. She was really upset, so Kevin went with her to try and help.
“He came back to get me and we managed to get into the bathroom.”
Gavin added, “It didn’t seem like much to us at the time, but we’re glad it made a difference to Mrs Rae and her daughter.”
Chairman of Sidey, Michael Dobson, said, “We are very proud of Gavin and Kevin and are delighted at the way they helped.
“The boys should be very proud of themselves.”
