Cat Rescued From Van Engine Compartment

Published: January 10, 2007

A local couple knew something was wrong with their van, but couldn’t agree on the problem. When they took it to the shop, mechanics found something very unusual.

Sure it’s a good thing when your engine purrs, but not like this. It all started with the average husband and wife disagreement.

“I doubt if there’s a cat inside our van,” said Jim Hollinsworth.

“Yes, there’s a cat in the car. It’s in the engine somewhere,” his wife Reshema would respond.

So Mrs. Hollinsworth called the fire department.

“They were going to try to rip out the whole side and I was like no see if you can get a dealership to do something, I owe money on this van,” she says.

Florin Road Toyota came to the rescue - free of charge.

“What’s the game plan? Taking the fender liner off so we can have access inside the fender where more than likely - he’s sitting right here on the foam. He sees me coming in,” says James Cota with Florin Road Toyota.

It took three mechanics, a small crowd of on-lookers and about twenty minutes of going back and forth.

“Was it worth it? Yeah, my wife’s an animal lover. We have two dogs and a couple cats so she wouldn’t have let me walk away and not get this guy out,” says Hollinsworth.
