Schoolboy hailed a hero

A SCHOOLBOY has been hailed as a Christmas hero for raising the alarm after finding a man collapsed and bleeding heavily on a park bench.
Siyani Alert, 10, a pupil at Risley Avenue Primary School, Tottenham, was walking to his grandmother’s home from an after-school club on December 22 when he noticed blood coming from the man’s head and stomach.
The man had collapsed in Tottenham Green East Park, opposite the College of North East London, some time before 6.30pm, and people were walking past in the thick fog unaware of his injuries.
Siyani stopped and prodded the man - who smelt of alcohol - on his calves to see if he was awake, but there was no response. He said: “I saw blood dripping down, and I hoped it was rain because it was raining that day, but it was blood.”
Other people kept walking by, except for a young woman only known as Nicole, who went to call an ambulance only to find the nearest phonebox out of order.
Siyani, of The Avenue, Tottenham, decided to run to his grandmother’s in nearby Talbot Close and raise the alarm. He guided the paramedics to the park, where they managed to revive the man.
Siyani’s grandmother Cicely Robinson, 72, said: “They told him that if it wasn’t for Siyani he would have died, and called him a hero.
“The man told Siyani, ‘Thank you, thank you, I love you.’”
It is understood the man, a Lithuanian living in King’s Cross, had been out celebrating earlier that day.
Siyani’s mother, Jennifer Alert, added: “I am very proud. I have always known my son has a good heart.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Thankfully the man wasn’t seriously injured, but the boy did the right thing in taking responsibility to call us.
