The fire was reported about 12:30 a.m. in the 9200 block of Olympic Boulevard and extinguished 15 minutes later, said Los Angeles County fire Capt. Mark Savage.
A 12-year-old boy living at the home was treated for minor smoke inhalation after he went into the burning house to save his 1-year-old brother left behind when the other occupants rushed out, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Raymond Enriquez of the Pico Rivera station.
The boy also called 911, Enriquez said.
The boy is named Osmar Cortez, according to a camera crew at the scene.
No other injures were reported.
The fire began in a laundry room, triggering smoke alarms, which prompted five family members and four visiting relatives to flee from the house.
The damage was estimated at $150,000, Savage said.
